Anyone who suffers from tailbone pain can tell you just how debilitating the pain can be. They will complain of intense pain that can make it difficult to walk and even impossible to sit. At times the pain can cause a person to become completely debilitated.
Coccydynia is caused by trauma and injury from falls to childbirth. Rare cases are caused by infections or tumors causing increase pressure and inflammation to the site.
Tailbone pain is usually treated with rest, anti-inflammatory, and pain medications, use of well-padded seating, and avoiding re-injury. On rare occasions, surgical intervention may be needed to remove bony prominences for those with unrelenting coccyx pain.
Can Acupuncture Treat Tailbone Pain?
YES! A few years back I had a patient call me a day aft
She had fallen backwards and down a set of stairs landing directly on her tailbone. Her doctor recommended rest, pain meds, and the use of padded seating after an x-ray showed a hairline fracture.
When she arrived at the office, she was in tears and looked absolutely miserable. There was no denying. She was in pain! I inserted Xinmen Heart Gate and she immediately felt relief. I inserted another few needles and viola her pain was gone! Her 9 out of 10 pain had completely resolved. She returned for a few more treatments and she had complete relief pain.
Can Acupuncture Treat Chronic Cases?
Yes! A few years ago, I was working with a physician whose sister had been involved in an accident years prior. Since then her sister had had to file for disability due to intolerable residual tailbone pain. During one of our discussions we began to talk about acupuncture and the treatment of her sister’s tailbone pain. I suggested that her sister see an acupuncturist in her home town. After a few weeks, I ran into her again when she happily announced her sister’s pain had been resolved, that she was now riding her bike and returning to school. They were both thrilled.
So, yes acupuncture can decrease and resolve tailbone pain! Every case will be different. Acute cases will have quicker results, those with chronic cases will require more treatments.
Do you have tailbone pain? Stop hurting! Make an appointment, come on in, decrease or resolve your pain. Begin enjoying a pain free life again.
